About Alec

Biography

A physicist by training. A public servant by conviction.

I'm a student at UC Santa Barbara's College of Creative Studies, where I study physics, and a senator in UCSB's Associated Students. My interests have always extended beyond the classroom. I believe that understanding the world is only part of our responsibility; we also have an obligation to make it better.

That conviction has guided my involvement in scientific research, student government, and civic advocacy. Across each of these pursuits, I've come to believe that meaningful progress requires both ambitious ideas and the willingness to turn them into action.

Background

From Los Angeles to Isla Vista.

Growing up in Los Angeles as the child of immigrants, I learned the importance of community, opportunity, and having a voice in the decisions that shape our lives.

My involvement in public service began with the Los Angeles City Youth Council, where I served as a council member and clerk. There, I had the opportunity to work with other young people to advocate for our generation's priorities and engage directly with local government, including advocating for several ballot measures reforming the city charter that will appear on the Los Angeles ballot this November.

When I came to UCSB, I brought that commitment with me. As an Associated Students Senator, I've continued working to represent students and strengthen the institutions that serve them. Living in Isla Vista has also given me a deeper appreciation for the challenges and possibilities of our community, and convinced me that we deserve a more ambitious approach to local government.
